Hubert Francis studied at RNCM and LCTS before joining the ROH Covent Garden Vilar Young Artists Programme, 2002-04, making his debut as Peasant Luisa Miller. Subsequent roles for ROH include Male Chorus The Rape of Lucretia, Spoletta Tosca, Harlekin Der Kaiser von Atlantis and Trin La fancuilla del West.
Elsewhere in the UK roles include Drum Major Wozzeck, Chekalinsky The Queen of Spades (WNO); Junge Diener Elektra (Opera North); Don Basilio Le nozze di Figaro, Marquis des Grieux The Gambler (Grange Park Opera); Ivan The Nose (The Opera Group); Poole Burning Waters (Buxton Festival).
Overseas performances include Yannakos in ROH production of The Greek Passion (Janáček Theatre, Brno); Remendado Carmen, Spoletta (Den Nye Opera); Spoletta, Ferdinand Karl V, Terry Bond Playing Away (Bregenz Festival); Terry Bond (St Pölten); Shabby Peasant Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk (Canadian Opera Company); Kedril/Hlas From the House of the Dead (Palermo).
In recital in the Crush Room at ROH, Hubert's repertoire includes Beethoven's An die ferne Geliebte, Dvořák's Gypsy Songs, Vaughan William's Songs of Travel, Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and Finzi's A Young Man's Exhortation and ROH2's highly acclaimed NITRO Project.
