Paul Steinberg is a native of New York City and studied Theater Design at the Central School of Art, London, he teaches Graduate Set Design at the NYU/Tisch School of the Arts, NYC and he is a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome.
For WNO he designed sets for Wozzeck and L’Incoronazione di Poppea as well as sets and costumes for Turandot.
Recent credits include Peter Grimes (ENO), La Calisto (ROH, Munich),Il Trovatore (Bregenz Festival), Il Turco in Italia (Berlin Staatsoper), Orlando (Munich), Tannhauser (Tokyo, Paris, Barcelona), Ercole Amante (Amsterdam), Kafka’s Trial (Copenhagen), Don Giovanni (New York City Opera), Casanova’s Homecoming (Minnesota Opera) and L’Orfeo (Opera North, Oslo, Glimmerglass).
Past productions include Lulu (ENO, Frankfurt), Rinaldo, Rodelinda, Pique Dame (Munich), Der Shatzgraber (Frankfurt), Otello, Falstaff, Hindemith Trilogy, Cav/Pag (Cologne), Arabella, Il Trovatore, Madam Butterfly, La Fanciulla del West (Antwerp), Paul Bunyan, Acis and Galatea (New York City Opera, Glimmerglass) La Traviata, Madam Butterfly, Alpha and Omega, Yosef (Tel Aviv), Lohengrin (Paris).
