Anna Whitelock on BBC Radio 4

13 August 2013

Why are we still obsessed with the Tudors? Anna Whitelock, the historian who is taking part in our Fact and Fiction events in partnership with National Trust, looks into this phenomenon in an interview with BBC Radio 4’s The World this Weekend.

The interview took place at the National Trust property, Audley End, and Anna said of such properties: “being able to go to places where historical characters lived is a thrill for many people”.

Anna discussed Donizetti’s Tudors trilogy and why we continue to be fascinated by this much talked-about dynasty. She noted that, “The Tudors were the first celebrities... Henry VIII’s bedroom politics became the cause of Europe being ripped apart.”

Listen to the interview in full here, available for the next week, starting at 24:41.
