Costume Designer Carmen

Originally from Italy, Agostino Cavalca studied fine arts, and since 1982 has been based in Paris as a costume designer for theatre and opera. He began working with Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier in 1995. His many costume designs for them include Carmen and Fidelio (WNO); Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny (Lausanne); Ariane et Barbe-Bleue (Opéra de Lyon); Lucia di Lammermoor (Opéra de Lyon, Le Châtelet, Paris); Der Rosenkavalier, Pelléas et Mélisande, Prokofiev’s Les Fiançailles au couvent, Der Ring des Nibelungen and Don Carlo (Geneva); Giulio Cesare in Egitto (Salzburg Festival); Hamlet and Madama Butterfly (The Royal Opera; Barcelona); Hansel and Gretel, La Cenerentola, ll turco in Italia and Il barbiere di Siviglia (Royal Opera). His other credits include designs for plays by Goethe, Molière, Shakespeare, Racine and Marivaux. Recent work for Leiser and Caurier includes Maria Stuarda (The Royal Opera); Die Zauberflöte (Vienna State Opera); Rossini’s Otello (Vlaamse Opera); and Norma (Salzburg Festival).
