Alexander Sprague

Alexander Sprague studied at the National Opera Studio and the Royal Academy of Music, London where he was supported by the Nicholas John Trust, the Josephine Baker Trust and was the recipient of the Kohn Bach Foundation Scholarship. He is the winner of the Michael Oliver Prize of the London Handel Singing Competition and a former Britten Pears Foundation Scholarship recipient. Recent engagements include Ywain in Birtwistle’s Gawain (Salzburger Festspiele); Pastore L’Orfeo (Opéra National de Lorraine); title role Albert Herring (Opera North); Novice Billy Budd (Göteborg Opera); Captain Macheath The Beggar’s Opera (The European Opera Centre); Pliable and Superstition Pilgrim’s Progress (English National Opera); Lyngstrand 
The Lady from the Sea (Scottish Opera and Edinburgh Festival); Agenore Il
re pastore, Eurimedes in Telemann’s Orpheus (Classical Opera Company); Male Chorus The Rape of Lucretia (British Youth Opera). Alexander also performs extensively on the concert and recital platform. Current and future engagements include Electrician in Adès Powder Her Face (ENO); Evangelist St John Passion (London Mozart Players); Pastore L’Orfeo with Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques at the Salle Pleyel, Paris.
