Claire Rutter was born in South Shields and studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio. She was a company principal with Scottish Opera for three years and was nominated for the Maria Callas Award for her debut in the USA as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte for Dallas Opera. Rutter sang the title role in Stephen Medcalf’s 2012 production of Aida at the Royal Albert Hall and has performed the title role of Tosca for English National Opera, Theater Basel, Finnish National Opera and Islenska Operan.
