American mezzo-soprano Kirstin Chávez has performed the title role in Carmen internationally. Other roles include Octavian Der Rosenkavalier (Florentine Opera), Hänsel Hänsel und Gretel (Atlanta Opera), Orfeo Orfeo ed Euridice (Metropolitan Opera) among others. She has performed main roles in contemporary American operas such as Sharon Falconer Elmer Gantry (Tulsa Opera); Jo in Little Women by Mark Adamo (Opera Pacific), Thérèse Thérèse Raquin (San Diego Opera); and her Metropolitan Opera principal debut was as Sondra Finchley in An American Tragedy by Tobias Picker. She also sang Sister Helen in Dead Man Walking by Jake Heggie. Recent engagements have included Carmen in Queensland, Australia and Graz, Austria, and as Lucretia The Rape of Lucretia to Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Italy. Quartett by Luca Francesconi was her house debut at the Royal Opera House, London.
