Raimund Bauer

Set Designer William Tell, Moses in Egypt

Raimund Bauer was born in Bavaria and studied at the Academy of Applied Arts, Vienna. He started as a designer for theatre and was resident designer at Schauspiel Köln, then Staatstheater Stuttgart. His work has been shown in cities including Vienna (Burgtheater), Hamburg (Deutsches Schauspielhaus), Munich (Residenztheater), Berlin (Volksbühne, Schillertheater). He has designed productions including La clemenza di Tito, Dead Man Walking, Der Konsul (Vienna); Die Gezeichneten, Fidelio (Salzburg); Parsifal, Tosca (Baden Baden); Der Rosenkavalier (Berlin); Rigoletto (Dresden); Tosca, Turandot, Tannhäuser (Amsterdam); Fidelio (Lyon; Tel Aviv); Parsifal (London; Barcelona); Der fliegende Holländer (Chicago; Los Angeles; San Francisco); Parsifal (San Francisco); Salome (Geneva). He created La fanciulla del West in Amsterdam and Elektra for Salzburg summer festival (both directed by Nikolaus Lehnhoff); Die tote Stadt in Nancy (directed by Philipp Himmelmann); Niobe, regina di Tebe for the Royal Opera House, London. He has worked on three productions with David Pountney: Król Roger (Bregenz; Barcelona; Warszaw), which won the OPUS, Deutscher Bühnenpreis award; Moses und Aron (Munich); and Un ballo in maschera (Zurich). Later productions include Krieg und Frieden (Cologne); Pelléas et Mélisande (Essen); Mörder, Hoffnung der Frauen (Bonn). In 2014: La fanciulla del West (Paris); Mitridate, re di Ponto (Schwetzingen); and 2015: Turandot (La Scala, Milan).
