Tanya McCallin

Designer La traviata

Tanya McCallin is a distinguished theatre and opera designer who works
extensively in Europe, USA and Australia. She trained at Central St Martin’s
School in London, and became resident designer with a number of British
regional repertory companies. She has been associated with many important
London theatre productions including premieres of works by Arthur Miller,
Pam Gems and Mike Leigh and productions of Chekhov, Sheridan and
Shakespeare. Opera work includes The Barber of Seville (English National
Opera; Barcelona); La traviata (Scottish Opera; Welsh National Opera);
Carmen with Francesca Zambello (Royal Opera House; Oslo; Australia;
Taiwan); Le nozze di Figaro (Royal Opera House; Valencia; on DVD); Turn of
the Screw with David McVicar (ENO; Mariinski-Kirov); Macbeth (Mariinski-
Kirov; London; Washington DC; Metropolitan Opera); Manon (ENO; Dallas;
New Zealand; Houston Grand Opera; Chicago; Barcelona); Les Contes
d’Hoffmann (Salzburg Festival); sets for Semele (Théâtre des Champs-
Elysées); costumes for Così fan tutte (Opéra National du Rhin, Strasbourg);
Rigoletto (Royal Opera House; BBC TV and DVD); Der Rosenkavalier (Scottish
Opera); Sweeney Todd (Théâtre du Châtelet). Most recently she designed La
traviata for the Bolshoi.
