Welsh National Opera’s roots lie in members of the community coming together driven by their love of song. WNO Community Chorus welcomes adult amateur singers of all ages and backgrounds from across Wales (and over the border) to come and take part in operatic experiences with WNO and be part of our WNO community.
WNO Community Chorus is not a set group of singers; each WNO Community Chorus performance will have a new sign-up process. Recruitment will either be non-auditioned or auditioned depending on the nature of the final performance.
Registration is now open for our next WNO Community Chorus adventure.
We are now recruiting a Venue Cymru, Llandudno based WNO Community Chorus to perform as the North Wales International Music Festival Chorus in a Magnificat concert as part of the North Wales International Music Festival. The repertoire will include Bach Magnificat in D, William Mathias Magnificat and two Welsh premières - young British composer Oliver Tarney’s Magnificat and Magnificat by the Royal and Welsh composer Paul Mealor.
WNO Community Chorus North will be performing alongside:
•Welsh National Opera soloists
The concert is on Sunday 24 September, 7pm at St Asaph Cathedral, St Asaph during the middle weekend of the North Wales International Music Festival.
The sign-up for this WNO Community Chorus North will be non-auditioned but please see the requirements below. Members will be required to commit to and attend a series of rehearsals starting Sunday 14 May 2017. Rehearsals will be led by WNO Community North Chorus Team.
In order to apply for WNO Community Chorus on this occasion you need to be:
•aged 18 or over
•committed to the majority of Sunday evening rehearsals at Venue Cymru, Llandudno as per schedule
•Be fully committed for the full weekend of the performance Saturday 23 (daytime) & Sunday 24 September (daytime & evening).
The cost to be part of this WNO Community Chorus North is £30 per singer. Details of how to pay will be confirmed post application. Should this fee be a cause for any concern, please contact WNO Community Chorus North Manager Sioned Foulkes at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Rehearsals will take place most Sundays between 14 May and 17 September from 5.30pm-8pm at Venue Cymru, with a performance on Sunday 24 September at 7pm. For a full rehearsal schedule, please see attachment.

Our Welsh National Opera summer 2017 season Vienna Vice is will include the WNO operatic debut for our new Music Director, Tomáš Hanus (who conducted the WNO Community Chorus for Mahler 2 in October 2016). To celebrate the opening night of our two Vienna Vice operas there are special opportunities for all to take part with WNO and be part of WNO Community Chorus.

These events are open to all aged 18 and over. The sessions will be a led by WNO Community Chorus Master Kate Woolveridge, based on the music of the season and followed by an evening at the opera. You can take part in both dates or just one of the two.
To book your space for either or both Community Chorus sessions followed by the trip to the see the opera.

•Once your email has been received you will receive further information via email from Esther on where to go on the days.
•If you are booking tickets for a group, once the tickets are booked – please email Esther on behalf of your group to confirm the names and voice types of all of the Community Chorus Session attendees.
Spaces for the workshops will be allocated on a first come first served basis. So book early to avoid disappointment!
You should still be able to book a ticket to see the Opera even if all the Singing session spaces have been taken!
