'As ever, the singing of the WNO Chorus was a delight’  British Theatre Guide

‘It is one of the performances of the year’  What’s On Stage

Tatyana is a young country girl convinced that the dashing Onegin is the man of her dreams. When she declares her devotion to him via a love letter, he rejects and humiliates her. Onegin then flirts with Tatyana’s older, engaged sister setting off a tragic chain of events – a tale of how unrequited love and the ways of high society can catastrophically collide.

Tchaikovsky’s best loved opera is based on the Alexander Pushkin novel of the same name. Simple and classic countryside settings are contrasted with beautiful ballroom scenes and rich costumes reflecting high society at the time. This poignant story showcases the battle between the yearnings of the heart and social convention, all through a score of wonderfully romantic choruses and evocative arias.

  • Performances start at 7pm
  • Running time approximately three hours and 15 minutes including two intervals
  • Sung in Russian, with surtitles in English (and Welsh in Cardiff and Llandudno).
