Magic Butterfly VR Experience | Welsh National Opera

SummaryBack to top

Friday, July 14, 2017 - Sunday, January 21, 2018

Opening on Friday 14 July 2017, Magic Butterfly is an immersive virtual reality (VR) experience by REWIND and WNO.

The free experience will reimagine scenes from Madam Butterfly and The Magic Flute, enchanting you in through a unique form of storytelling using classical music, art and technology. Featuring an original WNO recording, this presentation will be your perfect companion if you are new to, or unfamiliar with, the world of opera.

Be among the first to participate in this pioneering event. Enter our specially designed shipping container and don a VR headset, to be taken right inside two of our classic productions as you conjure up some animals as Tamino from The Magic Flute and enjoy an exclusive performance of Madam Butterfly’s 'One Fine Day' aria.

See us in Cardiff, Llandudno, Birmingham, Liverpool and London.

What is Virtual Reality? Virtual Reality (VR) technology combines high quality imagery and sounds, allowing you to experience and explore virtual, artificial, 3D worlds and images using a mobile and headset.

Total running time: approximately 8 minutes for the two VR experiences. The ‘One Fine Day’ experience from Madam Butterfly lasts 4min 21secs and ‘How Soft, How Strong Your Magic Sound’ from The Magic Flute lasts 3min 2secs.

Free entry, no advanced booking required
