Welsh National Opera (WNO), one of Europe’s pre-eminent opera companies, is seeking a General Director from 2019 to lead the Company artistically and operationally in to the next phase of its 75 year history.
WNO is renowned for its innovative, bold and critically acclaimed productions and its wide-reaching and award-winning youth and community work. The Company enjoys a global reputation for achieving the highest artistic quality, with regular international
co-productions and ground-breaking new commissions. Resident in Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, the Company’s main-scale productions often receive 4-5* reviews and our full-time Orchestra and Chorus perform to an exceptional standard. All this is made possible by a team of enormously talented, passionate and dedicated people.
As well as performing in Wales, WNO tours its main-scale productions annually to seven cities in England. The Company also performs regularly at the Royal Opera House, has toured to Oman, Finland and Dubai, and this year will be visiting the Hong Kong Arts Festival.
In this newly created role, the General Director will build upon these formidable strengths by providing an inspirational vision of our future and leading the company through significant change to achieve it. We seek a visible leader who will grow and diversify our audiences and our income streams, devise a balanced programme of innovative and traditional work and create a holistic approach to all WNO’s activities.
This exceptional and exciting role will suit an ambitious and talented individual with a well-established profile and networks in the arts/music industry and a love and significant knowledge of opera. The new General Director will be an excellent team player and builder with outstanding communication skills and experience of successfully managing teams and large budgets. A passion for leading and being able to inspire, engage and motivate everyone associated with WNO is essential, as are high levels of personal gravitas and integrity.
