Family fun with WNO

30 March 2017

Our second Family Concert is fast approaching, and we can now announce exciting additions to the event. Two fantastic soloists will be joining presenter Wynne Evans, Conductor James Southall and the WNO Orchestra to guide you through a familiar and fun filled programme of music.

Samantha Hay will perform the renowned Queen of the Night aria from The Magic Flute, reprising a role she played for WNO in Spring 2015. This is one of the most memorable, fast paced and menacing arias in opera and will truly showcase the power of the singer.

Joining Samantha will be Landi Oshinowo who wowed audiences and critics alike with her performance as Hattie in WNO’s production of Kiss Me, Kate in the Autumn. With a string of musical theatre credits to her name (including Fame, Shrek, Sister Act and Tommy), Landi brings her stunning vocal talents to our stage.

Concert host Wynne Evans and Conductor James Southall will lead you through the programme which includes music from a variety of composers, from Stravinsky, Strauss and Tchaikovsky to John Williams and Elton John. There is also a very special medley from The Jungle Book, which has been arranged by Welsh composer Gareth Glyn. This will be performed by a schools choir made up of pupils from Mount Stuart Primary School, Penygawsi Primary School, Dinas Powys Primary School and Jenner Park Primary School.

If you want to get more involved come along early, from 1pm, and you can join in the free activities happening throughout the building – from wigs and make up demonstrations, to props and costume displays there will be lots to see and do. We know it’s going to be a great afternoon, but don’t just take our word for it. People who came along last year had a brilliant time:

‘I had hoped that my five year old grand-daughter would like it. She loved it. A wonderful afternoon.’

‘A fantastic afternoon for us adults and our children (aged from 6 to 11). Really inspired and captivated them. You all did a great job.’

‘The concert was extremely well executed and presented by Wynne and the fantastic WNO musicians.’
