28 April 2017
We can now announce that the second WNO production to be broadcast on The Opera Platform will be Frank Martin’s Le Vin herbé. From 6pm tonight (28 Apr 2017), Le Vin herbé will be available to watch for free on the Platform for six months. We are thrilled to be able to share the opera with a wider audience thanks to our partnership with The Opera Platform which began last year with the broadcast of In Parenthesis. WNO are one of 15 European opera companies - and one of only two UK partners – involved with The Opera Platform.
This critically acclaimed production (5* The Guardian & The Independent), directed by Polly Graham, forms part of our Love’s Poisoned Chalice season and offers audiences a completely different take on the Tristan and Iseult legend. The production was filmed during our April visit to Venue Cymru in Llandudno, and we would like to thank everyone at the venue for all of their help and co-operation and also the audience for giving us their usual warm North Wales welcome.
The Opera Platform is designed to offer both those who already love opera and those curious to try it for the first time the opportunity to watch performances and access backstage content via a new online platform. The website is supported by the European Commission’s Creative Europe programme and created by a partnership led by Opera Europa – the European association of opera companies and festivals – with cultural broadcaster ARTE and 15 European opera companies including The Royal Opera and WNO in the UK. This multinational partnership is set to extend the reach of opera in Europe and beyond.
