A major exhibition on opera opened at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London on Saturday 30 September 2017. In collaboration with the Royal Opera House, it will create a vivid and immersive journey through 400 years of opera, exploring its passion, power and politics.
The exhibition reveals how opera brings together myriad art forms to create a multi-sensory work of art, and show how social, political, artistic and economic factors interact with great moments in the history of opera to tell a story of Europe over hundreds of years.
Welsh National Opera will be present at the V&A from Friday 19 – Sunday 21 January 2018 with our virtual reality experience, Magic Butterfly. We are also planning a special live event on Saturday 20 January 2018 – details to be announced soon.
Welsh National Opera is also delighted to be collaborating with the V&A, Royal Opera House and opera companies from across the UK on a major digital initiative from BBC Arts – #OperaPassion Day – that will take place across the country on Thursday 19 October 2017. More information will be announced shortly; keep an eye on our website and social media for full details.
Opera: Passion, Power and Politics runs in London until 25 February 2018 and full details can be found at vam.ac.uk/exhibitions/opera
