Poet Laureate to perform reading before opera premiere

10 October 2017

Welsh National Opera takes great pleasure in supporting organisations and creative artists to help develop talent in the world of opera. This weekend, one of these productions launches its Wales-wide tour at the Weston Studio, Wales Millennium Centre.

The World’s Wife is a brand new opera composed by Tom Green and based on the celebrated poems by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy. Described as a 21st century opera for solo soprano, string quartet and loop pedals, this radical new piece will bring a selection of the strong women featured in Carol Ann’s poetry to life in this brand new production.

In addition to the performance, we are delighted that Carol Ann Duffy will join us to read a selection of her poems from The World’s Wife from 6.15pm in the Preseli Room where she will be joined by Composer and Producer Tom Green who will talk about the opera itself. This is a unique opportunity to hear the inspiration behind an opera and the history of the composition followed by the performance itself.

Tickets for the pre-performance reading and talk are free, but should be pre-booked at the Ticket Office.
