See WNO Orchestra and BBC NOW in a unique double bill

11 December 2017

In January 2018, Welsh National Opera will be co-hosting the annual conference of the Association of British Orchestras (ABO) at Wales Millennium Centre along with BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Sinfonia Cymru. This is the major gathering of the classical music industry in the UK.

The conference, which this year has the theme Collaboration, will welcome around 300 delegates drawn from orchestras, opera and ballet companies both from within the UK and abroad, as well as funding agencies, broadcasters, venues, festivals, artist managers, publishers and suppliers.

They will discuss a variety of topics including a look at how collaboration can fuel sustainability within the industry.

To show just how well the collaborative relationships are working here in Wales, the WNO Orchestra and BBC NOW are uniting in their first joint concert to be held at BBC Hoddinott Hall, Wales Millennium Centre on Wed 24 Jan at 7.30pm.

This special double bill will open with the WNO Orchestra, under the baton of Conductor and Music Director Tomáš Hanus, performing Richard Strauss’s Rosenkavalier Suite followed by BBC NOW, conducted by Thomas Søndergård, with Rimski-Korsakov’s Scheherazade.

A limited number of tickets are available from Wales Millennium Centre 029 2063 6464 or from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales Audience Line (0800) 052 1812. The concert will also be recorded by BBC Radio 3 for future broadcast, so if you can’t get a ticket to be there in person you can still hear the event. Date of broadcast to be confirmed.
