14 July 2017
Today, Friday 14 July, we mark our 30 year partnership with ABP (South Wales) with the launch of Magic Butterfly in Cardiff Bay. A spectacular, immersive Virtual Reality (VR) experience allowing audiences to step inside two classic productions – Madam Butterfly and The Magic Flute. This free experience is uniquely presented in a custom made 30ft shipping container positioned outside Wales Millennium Centre, where it will remain until 11 August. We will also be touring the experience as part of our Autumn Season to Cardiff, Llandudno, Birmingham, Liverpool and London.
Magic Butterfly is a creative collaboration between award-winning VR production studio, REWIND VR and WNO, sponsored by Associated British Ports (South Wales).
ABP (South Wales) first became involved with WNO in1987 and has developed a partnership based on a shared value of serving the communities in which both companies work, particularly Cardiff Bay where both are based. The WNO activity ABP has sponsored over the years has been extremely varied and we are delighted to celebrate the 30th year of our special partnership with Magic Butterfly.
Matthew Kennerley, ABP Regional Director, said: 'This is the 30th year of ABP supporting WNO and we are very happy to be involved in this innovative and imaginative project to mark our special anniversary. Combining technology with opera homed in a shipping container that will move around the country presents a great opportunity for us to support WNO in making the arts more accessible to different audiences.'
