WNO Youth Opera uses the expertise and skills of an international opera company to support the professional development of young performers and technical placements. Every two years a new Youth Opera ensemble is formed, they spend the next year preparing for a fully staged production. Over the last decade WNO Youth Opera has developed a reputation as an exceptional music theatre ensemble.
In 2014 WNO Youth Opera were the first ever youth opera company to be nominated for a South Bank Sky Arts Award in the Opera Category for Paul Bunyan, and the first youth company to win a prestigious RPS award.
Many former WNO Youth Opera members have gone onto successful careers within the industry including Celine Forrest – selected to represent Wales in Cardiff Singer of the World; David Thaxton – Olivier Award recipient for Best Actor in a Musical; Katie Treharne – played the role of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera; and most recently, Lauren Morris – performed the role of Johanna alongside Bryn Terfel in Sweeney Todd at Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod.
Following on from the success of Paul Bunyan, WNO Youth Opera performed Kommilitonen! in summer 2016
