Youth Opera 10-14 | Welsh National Opera

SummaryBack to top

Since it began under the expert Music Direction of Dan Perkin, WNO Youth Opera (10-14) has earned itself an excellent reputation due to the high standard of choral singing consistently produced by the group and the quality of their performances.

During term time the group meets each Saturday at WNO Cardiff, offering young singers the opportunity to learn a vast range of repertoire whilst developing vocal and performance skills. The group regularly works with professional musicians, directors and performances range from informal sharing with friends and family, choral concerts to fully staged operatic productions. Membership requires no previous experience, and there are no auditions, all we ask is a regular commitment and enthusiasm for learning new skills and making new friends.

Recent productions include a newly commissioned UK première tour The Face in the Mirror composed by Lynne Plowman and a live broadcast performance on BBC Radio Three, The Choir Programme of a new setting of Dylan Thomas' Fernhill composed by Julian Philips.

Many WNO Youth Opera members perform in WNO main house productions in Cardiff and on tour across the UK.
